Email become "Emily_Tan/ETHB/Mal/Engtek.ENGTEK@ engtek.com" after send

Hi,

I'm using iNotes to send a mail. Why my email become "Emily_Tan/ETHB/Mal/Engtek.ENGTEK@ engtek.com" instead of emily@engtek.com. If I'm using Notes Client, I manage to change the email format to "emily@engtek.com" at Location setting. Pls advise where to set the email setting for iNotes and webmail. Thanks.

I believe it is your Golbal Domain document which has to be altered (Goto Domains View)

After opening the document, goto Conversions tab and Set

Local Part formed from  to Short Name
Notes domains included to None

This should get you internet address part only

~Hemanth
You need the Perosn document set up per madheeswar's first comment, because that's where it will find the address.

You need the Global Domain set up properly per HemanthaKumar, because that's how you tell the server to check your Person docuemnt for the name, instead of just inventing the weird address (Emily_Tan/ETHB/Mal/Engtek.ENGTEK@ engtek.com) as its ends each message.

There are three simialr sets of options, and Lotus provided a very bad roadmap to figuring out how each applies.  Here are the three places where there are settings for converting Notes/Internet addresses:

1) Global Domain document (see Hemantha)
2) Configuration settings -> MIME -> Outbound (see madheeswar)
3) Configuration settings -> Router/SMTP -> Basics (not mentioned earlier on this page)

I believe #1 is no longer used.  It was used in R4.

Now, as for #2, and #3, I'm confused as to which is which, bt I'll explain the reason why there are two.  if anyone has a better explanatio, or can tell me which is which, please do so.

If Emily sends a message to EE (say, support@experts-echange.com), then obviously, her Notes address @ENGTEK has to be converted into a valid Internet address @engtek.com.  I think, but am not sure, that is #2, as per madheeswar.  It controls how the SENDER'S Notes e-Mail address is converted to an Internet reply address.  (The Notes client can override this, as Emily has seen.)

So, why TWO settings?  Let's say Emily has two colleagues named Jane Doe and John Bull, whose Notes e-Mail addresses are Jane Doe/ETHB/Mal/Engtek@ENGTEK and John Bull/ETHB/Mal/Engtek@ENGTEK.  Emily sends a message to supoprt@experts-exchange.com, and cc's Jane and John.

Now, without any "address conversion," John and Jane can each do a reply-to-all, because all four addresses (Emily@ENGTEK, John@ENGTEK, Jane@ENGTEK, support@experts-echange.com) are undeerstood by their Notes clients and their Domino server properly.  But, let's say someone at Experts Exchange receives a message with a cc address of Jane Doe/ETHB/Mal/Engtek@ENGTEK or John Bull/ETHB/Mal/Engtek@ENGTEK.  If EE replies-to-all, these two recipients wold "bounce," because they are bad Internet mail addresses.

So, in addition to converting Emily's address, the router has to also convert any other Notes addresses in the SendTo or CopyTo fields.  While Lotus COULD HAVE used a single setting, they chose to use several.

So, #3 controls conversion of OTHER RECIPIENTS' Nmaes addresses into Internet addresses.

or maybe I got it backwards.

But I'm fairly certain that #1 is no longer used, unless you have no configuration documents present.
Yes. I agree that #1 is not in use. And I agree with explanation also. I am not so much experienced Qwalette that I can understand what is going on. Just I started supporting for our company Domino  Server, since there is no one. There is a lot to learn.
But as for #3 is concern, by default it is enabled when u install Domino Server. Most of the Admins won't change the settings in for #3.

May be some admins have changed it. Better to check that also.
Janice, please proceed with 2 and 3.

And let us know.

Dear all,

Pls let me know how the address in the CC, BCC fileds are constructed ,, all the setting in domino apply only "how the senders address is constructed"...

Senthilkumarvs,

That's not fair.  Ask your own question.
Of course, Janince should have closed this question by now, as well.

Oop! forgot to close this issue.. Sorry.
Janice,

It is never too late to close the question.  Eventually, EE staff will close it, though.

Were you ultimately able to resolve the issue?  What did you have to do?
If u followed my solution, then I need to get the points. Since I given solution first.
Qwaletee
Definetly Janice will give points to me. As my solution will definetly help.

Janice .........???
Mad for points, eh?
I manage to solve this issue with the solution provided by qwaletee.... Many Thanks..
Qwaletee
I am mad for points. ofcourse it is not of much help,
just I want to achieve 10,000 points and have access to Search function every month.

Janice, can we know, which solution answered ur question? is it #3?
If you solved with qwaletee's help, why not close the subject and award points?

Also... the GLobal Domain doc is still used in r5. I have a doc like that in my configuration
that states :

Internet domains translations ( "ee.com" to "expertsexchange.com")
Notes domain(s) included
Notes domain(s) position
Notes domain separator
Address example

I think "Notes Domain included" could have something to do with the question here.
Hi Janice,
Can u close this question. If u think that my answer assisted u, consider to split points.
Thanks.
I solve this problem from answer #3 & #5. Thanks to everyobe feedback. Case Close....
Janice,

To close, you must accept an answer, using the green buttons.
I don't get this.
Qwaletee..........????????

For points???
That's a part of it.  First, not closing the question for four weeks.  Then granting a B.  Fianlly, yes, I'm a litle surprised at the points, givemn Janice's own statement on #3 and #5, especially given that I'm fairly certain it was the configuration settings that were causing the problem.
I think she is refering to mine and your postings.
Yes, I also surprised by giving this "B".

#3 is my post.
#5 is your post.

And Yes it is configuration settings which I mentioned.

Janice,
Can u please change it to "A"??
First I have to say sorry to qwalatee. I want to accept #3 and #5 answer, but once I click on accept button at #3 answer. The system automatically switch to another screen. I can't manage to accept #5 answer. Sorry, this is the first I use this website. Pls advice, whether I still can accept #5 answer.
That can't be changed directly.  You can post a free question in community support explaining teh situation.

But I'm also wondering why you assigned a B.
