If you're using an account that was on the machine before adding it to the domain, you need to select the local machine instead of the domain in the "Log on to" dropdown box. If you have a domain account, use that.
Your local user may have been disabled. Try logging in to the domain, then run the PC Manager and check if the local user is disabled. If so, enable it and try logging is to the local computer with that user name.

PC name was lib1, without a password. I renamed it to Library1, while making it a member of a domain. All worked well until PC was rebooted. Now I cannot log onto the domain or local PC, or safe mode. I suspect the SAM on the local machine because, I reset the user password on the domain and ticked "change password at next logon". When I try to connect, it tells me that the pasword has expired, and gives me the options to change it. I do that, but it then says "No domain controller can be found". Really a "CazyOne"!!!
Try this... put the full 2000 logon name and then try to logon to the server.
Example.... computer@2000.local and see if it will log on.
I had a similar problem with an xp machine where it would not take the
regular logon name I created which was LSOLOFF.
It gave the same error you were recieving... but when I put LSOLOFF@AABOE.NET,
it loged right on. It might be a DNS related problem. Try it and see what happens.
