Cannot copy Video.Zip: The path is too deep (Windows XP)

I have recently setup a network betweeen two computers running Windows XP, I have no problems viewing each computers files, I have setup to share all drives and given all permissions to allow users full access to both computers.
When I try to transfer files from one computer to another via the network though I get the following message : Cannot copy Video.Zip: The path is too deep.
Video.zip being the file I was trying to transfer over.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?  If so, how did you rectify it?  The network is setup with two eithernet cards and a crossover cable if that helps at all.

Yes, on the mahcine you have the zip file on, create a directory named C:\transfer
move the zip file to it, and then copy from the other machine
the problem is the path is over 256 charcters, including the file name

I am still getting the same error.

My network seems to be very slow at responding to tasks, When I was running Windows 98 I never had this problem at all.

I am running a AMD 2Gig machine with 256meg ram and the other machine is a Pentium III 450 with 196meg ram.

please post the path here
\\Fiend2000xp\c\transfer\video.zip
to
\\fiend450\c

Hope this is the path you was after!

I've experienced the same error when copying very large files from an XP box to anywhere else (it may be windows 2000 server, XP, 2003 server, samba, etc).

It has nothing to do with the length of the path.

I've looked for months either in EE, google, usenet, MS KB. And still I just find a lot of persons with the same problem and no solutions.

I'll keep looking and post something in here. One of my users does uncompressed digital video editing and it's certainly frustrating for him not to be able to copy (sometimes) his video files to the rendering servers. We opted for running the renders with the files on his computer -which makes the rendering slower-.
